Le Jardin du Paradis, our bar-restaurant, is there to offer you a moment of relaxation and conviviality in our 4-star campsite in the Vendée.
The Vendée is a haven for migratory birds and their reproduction. It is also a protected area for all the aquatic animals that live and breed there.
The Vendée is also a major fishing area, with the port of Bourgenay close to the campsite. Monkfish, turbot, hake, whiting, sole, red mullet, pollack, dogfish, mackerel, tuna, sea bass and the famous sardine of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie are caught here. The many crustaceans such as pink and grey shrimps, langoustines, spiders and crabs (Dungeness, Crawfish…) and of course, the divine blue lobster. Squid, cuttlefish and squid also thrive in the waters of the Vendée: all healthy and fresh products typical of the region that are a delight to gourmets and lovers of local products and that you can find in our restaurant in Talmont.
The sardines fished on the coast of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie at the beginning of the 17th century now provide nearly 2,500 tonnes sold by fishmongers and destined for canneries. Local fishermen quickly specialised in long-term conservation.
The famous tins of sardines in oil which obtained the red label in 2000 come mainly from Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, a charming seaside resort and the leading sardine fishing port on the Atlantic coast.
The Bay of Aiguillon owes its reputation to the mussels raised on bouchots (oak stakes planted in the water). These bouchot beds are said to be the oldest in the world and date back to the 13th century. Small but fleshy, bouchot mussels have a beautiful yellow flesh, with a very black and rather hard shell. They have a pronounced flavour. Sole from Sables d’Olonne, also known as “la Sablaise“, is a flatfish that lives off the coast of the Vendée, the lobster from Noirmoutier, a reference product on the menus of the region’s top restaurants, and the oyster from the Vendée are also highly prized by connoisseurs.
