Le Jardin du Paradis, our new bar-restaurant, is a place to relax with friends. The Vendée is a haven for migratory birds and their mating season. It is also a protected space for all marine animals that live and reproduce there. The Vendée is also known for fishing. You can fish for monkfish, turbot, hake, whiting, “sablaise” sole, red mullet, pollock, dogfish, mackerel, tuna, sea bass, and the famousSaint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie sardine. There are many crustaceans such as pink and sand shrimp, langoustines, crabs (spider, brown, velvet, etc.), and of course the divine blue lobster. Calamari, cuttlefish and squid are also happy in the waters of the Vendée. These fresh, healthy, and local products are beloved by foodies.
The sardines fished on the Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie coast at the beginning of the 17th century now supply almost 2,500 tons that fish merchants sell to canneries. Local fisherman quickly specialized in long-term conservation. The famous cans of sardines in oil that were awarded the red label in 2000 come mostly from Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, a charming resort town and the busiest fishing port on the Atlantic for sardines.
The Bay of l’Aiguillon is known for mussels grown on bouchots (oak stakes planted in the water). These beds of bouchots are the oldest in the world, dating from the 18th century. Small but fleshy, bouchot mussels have beautiful, yellow flesh with a very black, hard shell. They have a strong flavor. The sole from Les Sables-d’Olonne, called “la Sablaise”, is a flat fish that lives off the Vendée coast. The Noirmoutier lobster is always found on the menus of top restaurants in the region, and the Vendée oyster is also very popular.
Our bar-restaurant Le Jardin du Paradis is both modern and welcoming. For lunch or dinner, or just a drink or a snack, you can enjoy our beautiful, shaded deck. You will find seasonal salads, traditional dishes, and seafood on our new menu. We also offer colorful, themed meals that go with the evening’s activity. We have an à la plancha, event every week with grilled lobster or prime rib. If you feel like cooking one evening, we also have takeaway during the season. Our “shack” has a whole line of snacks available during the day. You can enjoy pizza, roast chicken, fries, hamburgers, paninis, salads, croque monsieurs, drinks, and more.
