You can walk through the port of Les Sables-d’Olonne that was once called Le Havre d’Olonne. A natural, busy port, it was already the most imported cod fishing port in France the 17th century. Today, you will find mostly sardines, tuna, and sole at the market stalls. It is still the busiest fishing port in the Vendée.
The nearby marshes of Olonne-sur-Mer cover a wetland of several hundred hectares. This nature is pristine and rich, both in plant and animal life. The starting place of the legendary Vendée Globe race, famous for sailing and yachting, the Coast of Light extends for over 100 km.
The town offers a wide variety of water sports like surfing, sailing, jet skis, paddleboarding, and kayaking. There are also well-being and relaxing activities like spas and water aerobics, or outdoor activities like golf, hiking, and biking all year round.
Museums and themed exhibitions are planned all year at the Abbaye Sainte Croix Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MASC). You can also admire the beautiful Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Port church, the Saint-Nicolas Fort, and the zoo for young and old.
